Director, Climate Change Mitigation / Climate Change Secretariat, Environment & Local Government of New Brunswick
Susan Atkinson has worked for the Government of New Brunswick, Department of Environment and Local Government for over 30 years. Her career spans 6 years as EIA Project Manager, 15 years as Regional Director and 11 years as Director of (GHG) Mitigation, Climate Change Secretariat. In this capacity, Susan and her team play an instrumental role in ensuring that New Brunswick reduces its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with 2030 and 2050 legislated targets, and the province’s commitment to Net Zero emissions by 2050. Susan works with international, national, subnational governments, agencies and nongovernment organizations to ensure climate change mitigation is considered and integrated within policies, programs, and day-to-day decisions, while seizing the opportunities presented in the transition to a clean, prosperous, and resilient economy for the betterment of all New Brunswickers.
Susan has her B.Sc. in Biology from the University of New Brunswick and M.Sc. in Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto. In addition to her career with government, Susan also worked for BASF as Regulatory Affairs Manager and Bell Aliant as Sustainability Manager. Throughout her career, Susan has served on numerous Boards and Committees.
