Nova Scotia's move from coal to a 80% clean energy mix is bringing welcome changes and advantages to the province.
For our environment, the Province of Nova Scotia's plans tell us how we will harness power from clean energy sources to provide electricity. For the local economy, the plans present many opportunities as new areas are built up in support of clean energy.
To bring the details and data home to you, we have created a set of opportunities for learning and conversation. Clean Energy Conversations is a series of open houses in various communities across Nova Scotia, webinars for online presentations and discussions, and this resource page for easy access to plans and helpful information.
Come here when you want to:
- read the Province of Nova Scotia's three plans
- learn a lot about onshore wind
- check when we are coming to your area
What is Nova Scotia's 2030 renewable energy mix?
In this plan, learn directly from the Department of Energy about how the Province of Nova Scotia will move from coal to clean energy and what kinds of energy makes sense to use in achieving these goals.
What can offshore wind provide Nova Scotia?
In this plan, learn why the Department of Energy sees great potential in offshore wind and how we could turn wind into a powerful advantage.
What role does green hydrogen play as a clean fuel?
In this plan, learn how a clean fuel like green hydrogen could work well with the other clean energy sources to the advantage of the local economy.
Why do we want to put onshore wind to work?
On this website, learn a lot about onshore wind through reliable resources explaining the science and an FAQ providing answers to common questions.
Open Houses, Open Conversations
Net Zero Atlantic is travelling with staff from Nova Scotia Department of Energy to communities from September 15 to October 20, 2025. The open houses are invitations to curious individuals, families, and organizations who want to have open conversations about the Province's clean energy plans and future for Nova Scotia, and the research supporting them.
You can expect friendly conversations, helpful information, and some snacks for when you venture around to the interactive stations.
Want to learn more about wind farms and why they make sense for Nova Scotia?
Use this 3D visualization and interactive tool to learn more about the following:
- what clean energy is and how it can create “green” jobs in Nova Scotia,
- what a typical wind farm looks like, and
- how onshore and offshore wind farms work.
Also, check out this video explaining the role of onshore and offshore wind in Nova Scotia's clean energy transition.
Both the visualization tool and video were provided by the Nova Scotia Department of Energy.
