Position Overview
As a Net Zero Atlantic Electricity Grid Specialist you are collaborative and engaged in managing and contributing to research programs which support Atlantic Canada’s transition to a low-carbon future. In this role, you will bring your technical knowledge and expertise in the electricity sector to help NZA deliver projects focused on electricity, electrification, and variable renewable energy (VRE) integration. If you have a technical background with experience in the electricity sector, experience with project management, enjoy building relationships, coordinating projects, collaborating with a diverse team, and have a passion for finding solutions to complex challenges, we want to hear from you.
About Us
At Net Zero Atlantic we lead applied research and contribute to projects that enable the transition of Atlantic Canada’s energy system to a carbon-neutral future. As an independent non-profit organization, we achieve our mission and purpose through collaboration with academia, governments, private sector, Indigenous Peoples, and NGOs.
Our work is to facilitate collaborative research and projects focusing on resolving key questions related to the energy transition. Our current fields of interest include energy system modelling, offshore wind, hydrogen, solar, geothermal energy, carbon sequestration, green buildings, emerging concepts and technologies, and behavioural based mitigation solutions, among others.

- The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000 , depending on demonstrated experience and qualifications.

About the Opportunity
In this full-time, permanent position, you will report to a Director of Research and be responsible for:
- Helping Net Zero Atlantic expand its capacity and work in the electricity sector by identifying knowledge gaps on our way towards net-zero GHG emissions.
- Contributing to work focused on integrating variable renewable electricity into the existing electricity grid.
- Reviewing technical deliverables of research projects focused on the electricity sector.
- Developing, planning and executing renewable energy research projects.
- Building and growing Net Zero Atlantic’s reputation as an unbiased and trusted partner in advancing the transition to a carbon-neutral future.
- Contributing to grow strong working relationships and collaborative arrangements amongst project partners, collaborators, participants, funders, and stakeholders.
- Contributing to proposals, request for proposals, as well as funding applications.
- Supporting activities that further Net Zero Atlantic’s mandate.
Required qualifications include:
- Post-secondary degree in engineering, renewable/clean energy technology or any other related discipline. Or a relevant combination of education and experience.
- Experience managing research, technology development, or other projects in the electricity sector.
- Demonstrated knowledge of renewable energy integration and associated challenges and opportunities.
- Experience and familiarity with energy modelling software tools and their inputs and outputs.
- Demonstrated experience in team collaboration and prioritizing tasks.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Independent worker, well organized, self starter.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Deep understanding of the Atlantic Canadian electricity grid.
- Familiarity with Atlantic Canadian energy and climate change policy goals and objectives.
- Experience/familiarity with PLEXOS modelling, and/or other energy modelling software.
- An understanding of electricity sector decarbonization and end use electrification strategies.
