Energy System Modeller

At Net Zero Atlantic, we're helping Atlantic Canada move toward a more sustainable energy future by producing credible and objective data to inform sound energy policies and decisions. Our focus is on coordinating research and projects that will help to decarbonize our region’s economy, mitigating climate change impacts and moving Atlantic Canada toward net-zero emissions by 2050. Our clients include government and industry representatives who need complete and reliable information to guide thinking and action.

We are changing the way energy research is delivered. We’re in the business of facilitating collaborative, made-to-order research projects that resolve key energy-related questions. We are growing fast and are seeking an energy system modeller to join our team.

Our Opportunity:

Over the last year, we developed the first open-source energy system model for Atlantic Canada to enable our region to make informed decisions on our path towards a carbon-neutral future. We are now looking to engage an energy system modeller for the core project team. The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Producing credible energy system modelling insights to support government and industry decision-making,
  • Advancing the capabilities of Net Zero Atlantic’s open-source energy system model,
  • Creating reports to disseminate energy system modelling results to stakeholders and the public at large,
  • Supporting Net Zero Atlantic’s research team with data analysis services, and
  • Engaging with stakeholders from academia, government, and industry in model development, scenario design, and analysis.

Your qualifications include:

  • An advanced degree with a focus on energy system modelling and analysis.
  • A minimum of 4+ years experience in energy system analysis and modelling.
  • Experience with data processing and analysis concepts.
  • Experience with visualization of data.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to collaborate. 
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent worker, well organized, self starter.

Assets (but not required):

  • Familiarity with the open-source energy system modelling community
  • Familiarity with GitHub
  • Experience with Temoa
