Reducing Energy Poverty through Deep Energy Retrofits in Bridgewater

Bridgewater, Nova Scotia is doing what no other Canadian municipality is doing. We are focusing our work to reduce GHG emissions on supporting those who are struggling the most in our community. Through the power of partnerships, we have been able to launch the Energize Bridgewater Home Upgrades program to carry out deep energy retrofits for income-qualified homeowners and for landlords in Bridgewater. We are grateful to the Clean Foundation, Efficiency Nova Scotia, and the South Shore Open Doors Association who are working side-by-side with us to deliver the program.

Net Zero Emerging Concepts and Technologies Research Program

Nova Scotia won’t get to net-zero by 2050 with proven renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The Net Zero Emerging Concepts and Technologies (ECT) Research Program will fund projects that seek to identify gaps in carbon-reduction pathways for hard-to-abate emissions and to support made-in-Nova Scotia solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions required to achieve net-zero by 2050.

Dr. Taco Niet will share details of the modelling work being carried out in his research lab at Simon Fraser University as well as present on how he and his team are building models to support sustainable development. He will first explain the concepts of climate justice and how they can be applied in energy systems modelling and then highlight some recent work from his research team. This includes the development of OSeMOSYS Global, building CLEWs Canada as well as community engaged research.
