Review of Nova Scotia Power Transmission System Interconnection Requirements

Power Advisory was engaged by OERA on behalf of the Nova Scotia Department of Energy & Mines to review the recently released Nova Scotia Power Transmission System Interconnection Requirements (TSIR) and identify any gaps between recommendations made by Power Advisory in their August 2020 report for OERA, Nova Scotia Ancillary Service Provision by Variable Output Renewable Energy Resources and the TSIR.  The latter Power Advisory report outlined various changes to support the provision of ancillary services by variable output renewable energy resources in Nova Scotia and by so doing support their increased grid penetration.

The study describes the TSIR’s general scope, reviews the key ancillary services and the technical nature of these services, and identifies certain gaps between Power Advisory’s initial recommendations and February 25, 2021 version of the TSIR.
