Director, Sustainability Division, PEI Department of Environment, Energy & Climate Action

Derek Ellis is director of PEI Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action’s Sustainability Division, where he leads the province’s climate action efforts – including its 2040 net zero emissions target. 

During Derek’s time with the province, he’s overseen the development of several decarbonization programs including the solar PV rebate, electric vehicle incentive, and the province’s free heat pump program. 

Derek lives in Charlottetown with his wife Kelly, two young boys Olin and Ethan, and a middle-aged beagle named Morty. In his spare time, Derek enjoys recording music, playing hockey and studying climate science and policy.
