About the Course:

The Introduction to RETScreen® Expert training course is designed for new users of the RETScreen® Clean Energy Management Software who are involved in the analysis or management of how energy is used in buildings, facilities, or houses.

This one-day free course is highly immersive and combines instructor-led presentations with hands-on exercises using the RETScreen® software.

What is RETScreen®:

The RETScreen® Expert software is an intelligent decision-making support tool that enables you to rapidly identify, assess, optimize, and track the performance of clean energy investments over a project’s life cycle.

RETScreen® Expert is a comprehensive desktop tool that incorporates benchmarking, feasibility studies, performance assessment, and portfolio analysis for various types of facilities, including commercial, institutional, residential, industrial, and power generation.

Developed by Natural Resources Canada, RETScreen® stands for Renewable-energy and Energy-efficiency Technology Screening software. It is the world’s leading clean energy management software, growing at 40,000+ new users each year, available in 38 languages, and covering 2/3rds of the world’s population.

The software can be used to evaluate:

· Clean energy options

· Energy production savings and costs

· Financial viability and risks of renewable energy and energy efficiency (EE) technologies

· GHG emission reductions

· The performance of implemented projects

Course participants will learn how to get the most out of the software and gain an understanding of the tool and how to apply it to their own projects.

Course Agenda:

1) What is and what is not RETScreen® Expert

2) Energy modelling for energy auditing and emissions footprint

3) Data analysis and performance

4) Portfolio management with net-zero planning tools

5) Power plants

6) Power, heating, and cooling

7) Power, storage, and off-grid

System Requirements:

· Microsoft® Windows 8.1 | Windows 10 | Windows 11

· Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.8 or higher

About the trainer:

Javier Ojeda, P.Eng., MBA, CEM, REP, PMP.

Javier brings 19 years of experience in renewable energy and energy management and has been leading energy audits in Canada and Latin America. He obtained the Certified Energy Management international certification in 2011 by the Association of Energy Engineers of the United States. He has conducted numerous energy audits in Canada and Latin America (already mentioned above). Javier has led renewable energy projects and has been in both parts of the equation: as the asset owner and operator, and as the project developer and consultant. In late 2021, he founded Hysovent Limited, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as a consulting firm focused on providing engineering and project management consulting services for renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives to a wide range of customers. He has been a “RETScreen power user” since 2015, and an active advocate for a more extensive use of the tool. He uses the tool on his day-to-day engineering practice from energy audits to power plant feasibility studies.
