Energy Transition: What’s the role of innovation in the shift to a greener economy?

OERA Online Exchange - June 22

Richard Florizone, President & CEO, International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)

Helen Mountford, Vice President, Climate & Economics, World Resources Institute

We discussed “Energy Transition: What’s the role of innovation in the shift to a greener economy?” Fostering innovation is expected to contribute to sustainable economic development with better environmental outcomes. But how will the economic fallout of the pandemic affect the speed of energy industry innovation? Should we use recovery funds to invest in innovation, given that it takes time and for every success there are several failures? Or should recovery funds instead to go to sure bets and immediate needs?  Who should take the innovation risk?

We were excited to have special guests, Richard Florizone, President & CEO, International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), and Helen Mountford, Vice President, Climate & Economics World Resources Institute join us for this discussion.

The OERA Online Exchange is open to all. We’re looking forward to staying connected and maybe even encouraging some new collaboration among our partners, colleagues and friends from academia, government, industry and beyond.
