Ancillary Services from Variable Renewable Energy Resources: A Strategy for Supporting their Increased Market Penetration

The presentation will review:
(1) the role that variable output renewable energy resources (i.e., wind, solar and batteries) can play with respect to the provision of various ancillary services that are essential to reliable electricity system operations;  
(2) how the provision of these ancillary services can support increased market opportunities for these resources; and
(3) how such a framework might be implemented in Nova Scotia and other electricity systems.
