Electrification of Marine Fleet (Modeling of electric boats as energy storage)

Electric boats have the potential to act as “energy storage wrapped in a boat”. By creating a dynamic storage system on board, electric boats are able to supply energy for voltage regulation, peak shaving, emergency power and to be a load source that accepts intermittent renewable power when available. The goal of this project is to build a model to show the flow of power in a dynamic energy storage project where the storage batteries are in boats. Phase 1 will result in a numerical model that will show the power flow between electric boats as energy storage and an electric utility, while Phase 2 will study the data flow over six months in an experimental demonstration of electric boats as energy storage.
