Canada's Ocean Supercluster (OSC), in collaboration with the Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance (AHA) and Net Zero Atlantic, is driving forward the Marine Hydrogen Action Initiative to support the development of innovative hydrogen projects in Atlantic Canada. Recognizing the region’s vast potential, this initiative will co-invest in projects that contribute to the growth of the ocean economy through hydrogen innovation.

Alisdair McLean, Chief Executive Officer, Net Zero Atlantic

Alisdair is an advocate for R&D projects that enhance our understanding of energy development and renewable energy technologies focused on the natural and social environments. He has a record of accomplishments across diverse industries, including more than 15 years of experience in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. Alisdair holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng) from Dalhousie University and a certificate in Strategic Marketing Essentials from Wharton, University of Pennsylvania.

Jennifer LaPlante, Chief Growth & Investment Officer, Canada’s Ocean Supercluster

Jennifer LaPlante is the Chief Growth and investment Officer for Canada’s Ocean Supercluster. In her role, she is responsible for supporting the OSC’s investment in innovation and commercialization of Canadian-created ocean technology to grow Canada’s ocean economy. Jennifer’s career has focused on data, analytics and technology. Before the OSC, she was the Executive Director of DeepSense supporting hundreds of companies across Canada to increase comprehension and adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Jennifer holds an MBA and an MSc in Computing and Data Analytics.

Derek Estabrook, Executive Director, Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance

Derek Estabrook was recently appointed as the Executive Director of the Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance (AHA). The AHA is the voice of the hydrogen sector in Atlantic Canada and supports the development of a prosperous hydrogen economy in the region. Prior to joining the AHA Derek was the Vice President of Business Development at Eastward Energy where he has played a key role in advancing the company’s energy transition strategy including advocating for the use of low-carbon hydrogen to reduce GHG emissions in Nova Scotia. He has also played an important role in advancing the work of the AHA since its inception in 2021, first as Chair of the Marketing & Communications Committee and most recently as Vice Chair of the AHA Board of Directors.

Before joining the energy industry Derek held senior food and beverage industry roles in sales, marketing, product innovation, and business development at PepsiCo, Agropur, Gatorade Canada, and Maple Leaf Foods. Derek holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Dalhousie University. He lives in Halifax where he is an avid runner, cyclist, cross country skier and outdoor enthusiast. He also serves as a Director on the board of the Healthy Tomorrow Foundation.
