Specifically, the project aims to:
Phase 1:
1. Design and develop a long-lifetime V2G battery prototype with technology readiness level of 7 – operational environment at pre-commercial scale.
2. Perform extensive testing to identify technological barriers to manufacturing V2G batteries and optimize the battery architecture.
3. Filling the technological gap and developing Nova Scotian Intellectual Property (IP) needed for commercialization of V2G batteries.
Phase 2:
4. Integrate these battery systems into marine vessels, particularly within the fishing and ferry fleets, to support the adoption of sustainable fishing techniques and reduce GHG emissions and improve resource utilization.
5. Lay the groundwork for the widespread adoption of electric-powered marine vessels, setting a precedent for the modernization of the marine industry in alignment with net-zero objectives.
