Executive Director of the Unama’ki Institute of Natural Resources

Lisa Young is the Executive Director of Unama’ki Institute of Natural Resources (UINR), a leading Mi’kmaw natural resources and environmental management organization. Lisa joined UINR shortly after graduating with a BSc in Biology from York University. Lisa participates on a number of committees including Pitu’paq, Bras d’Or Lakes Collaborative Environmental Planning Initiative, NS Mi’kmaq IPCA Advisory Committee, NS Mi’kmaq Forestry Advisory Committee, the Joint Committee on Climate Action, and the Advisory Committee on Climate Action and the Environment. Lisa is also one of the Indigenous Leads for the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership who served as a Core member of the Indigenous Circle of Experts (ICE) for the Pathway to Canada Target 1 from 2017-2018. Members of ICE worked together to produce We Rise Together, a historic report about “achieving the Pathway to Canada Target 1 through the creation of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas in the spirit and practice of reconciliation.
