As an Engagement Coordinator at Net Zero Atlantic, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Atlantic Canada’s transition to a low-carbon future. You will support the development and implementation of best practices for public communications and community engagement in Nova Scotia’s clean energy sector. In this role, you will engage with Nova Scotians about ongoing initiatives and strategies to advance the energy transition in the province using two-way learning principles. About Us

At Net Zero Atlantic we lead applied research and contribute to projects that enable the transition of Atlantic Canada’s energy system to a carbon-neutral future. As an independent non-profit organization, we achieve our mission and purpose through collaboration with academia, governments, private sector, Indigenous Peoples, and NGOs.

Our work is to facilitate collaborative research and projects focusing on resolving key questions related to the energy transition. Our current fields of interest include energy system modelling, offshore wind, hydrogen, solar, geothermal energy, carbon sequestration, green buildings, emerging concepts and technologies, and behavioural based mitigation solutions, among others.

  • The annual salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000, depending on demonstrated experience and qualifications.

About the Opportunity

In this role, you will report to a Director of Research and be responsible for:

  • Supporting senior staff in developing customized training and other development resources required for public engagement and communications activities.
  • Planning, organizing, and attending public engagement events on clean energy topics across Nova Scotia.
  • Supporting training for individuals and community organizations on best practices for conducting community engagement and communications centering on Nova Scotia’s energy transition, and other related activities.
  • Contributing to materials and reports that highlight findings and lessons learned regarding public-focused communications and engagement sessions.
  • Working closely with the project team on deliverables and finances.
  • Travelling to event and engagement locations as needed.
  • Supporting activities that further Net Zero Atlantic’s mandate.

Required qualifications include:

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, public relations, communications, environmental studies, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution. Or relevant combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in planning, organizing, and facilitating public engagement events.
  • Proven track record of building relationships and engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with a strong desire to collaborate.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating excellent organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Understanding of Atlantic Canada’s transition to a carbon-neutral society.
  • Experience in collaborating with First Nations and/or other equity deserving groups.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
