Lower Jurassic Source Rocks in Relation to the North Atlantic

April 23, 2020 1:00pm – 2:00pm ADT

In the absence of definitive, direct evidence for a Liassic (i.e. Lower Jurassic) petroleum system offshore Nova Scotia, information is required on source rock analogs around the greater North Atlantic region. It is important to document which areas were favorable for the accumulation of organic rich sediments across the various stages of the Lias, and consider how local and global earth system controls facilitated that process. Data on organic rich sediments has been compiled from basins around the world.

Quantifying Fish-Turbine Interactions Using New VEMCO Tagging Technology

February 20, 2020 1:00pm – 2:00pm AST

The lack of credible scientific data on the potential effects of instream tidal power is delaying the decision-making process on a technology that shows promise for reducing carbon emissions, and for which Canada could become a global leader in the production of infrastructure. It remains unclear if fishes that occupy Canada’s leading tidal energy test site will be negatively affected by turbine installations. Detection of effects on individuals are critical for listed endangered species (i.e.
